Why diets SUCK!!

Diets……I personally cannot stand that word. It is everything that is wrong with health and fitness in today’s society.

Diets are bad people. Very bad. They promote a lack of proper nutrition, which in turn can result in extreme health problems. Adkins, liquid, caveman….the list of diets goes on and on. It all becomes very complex and complicated, where it should really be the most simplistic thing in your daily routine. Diets suck, but a healthy, balanced diet is your key to winning!!!

By keeping a balance of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals will not only help you feel energised, full and more alert, but it will also help improve skin condition, hair, eye, teeth and your organs will be in far greater shape. This is a no brainer in my opinion. However if you are still not sold on the idea, I have complied a list below on why diets suck so much!!!

1. They are not sustainable

When you think of a diet, I can guarantee you think of hunger and unhappiness. Do you really want to sustain that feeling for the rest of your life? I think not. You will eventually end up craving what you are missing out on more and more and eventually cave in, resulting in a feeling of failure and guilt. Don’t deprive yourself of food, just enjoy moderately.

2. Inconvenience

You want to be the person who always says no to going out for a nice meal, because your ‘diet’ won’t allow you to? Or having to take your own meals to other peoples houses because you can’t have what everyone else is having? Thought not!!

3. Expense

Healthy food is generally more expensive yes. But specific diet food can be mighty expensive. Products like weight watchers or foods that mention Paleo, or Adkins values are ramped up due to the name. Don’t fall for this trick.

4. Mood Swings

Being hungry makes me unhappy. I’m sure it makes you unhappy too. When I’m hungry I tend to be less sociable and far, far less productive. There is a simple explanation for this. Your brain needs energy to function correctly, and sugar is the only molecule your brain will accept for fuel to use as energy. So if your blood sugar levels are low, your productivity will decrease. If you aim to cut out all sugar, like some diets suggest, your brain power will also suffer. And that ain’t good!

5. It can take the enjoyment out of eating

Eating is one of life’s greatest pleasures. When you get so caught up in dieting, you begin to dread each meal. This takes all of the fun out of it. Eating should be a joyous event, as you are providing your body with the fuel to survive.

6. Too much time measuring weight loss

All of the measuring, calorie counting and weighing is not only a massive time consumer, but also not necessary. If you exercise regularly, (and by regularly I mean 3-5 times per week), and eat healthy, wholesome foods which include a portion of protein, carbohydrate, fats (the good ones e.g avocado, nuts, fish oils, seeds), and some vits and minerals, you will be feeling healthy, strong, fit and you will start to look leaner and have a more athletic physique.

In summary, your body regenerates itself with the food you eat. So you are literally what you eat. If you eat healthy, wholesome food, your body will regenerate itself with this and you will look and feel great. If you eat sugary processed foods, well, you don’t need me to tell you you will start to feel like crap. DO NOT deprive your body of the vital macronutrients, (protein, fat, carbs) and micronutrients, (vitamins and minerals) that are crucial to human health, and ultimately survival. Keep active and keep eating right, and you’ll be winning life 🙂
