Don’t Let January Beat You

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year.

Now that it’s January, I’d imagine a lot of you, especially if you’re reading this article, will be starting a new health and fitness regime, hoping that 2019 will be the year you finally crack it and achieve the health you crave or body you desire.

This is fantastic. And if you are one of these people, then kudos to you.

At the beginning of January, you won’t be alone. There will be many people with the same hopes and aspirations as you. But, as the weeks go on, you will see that the number of people who started a fitness program, will begin to drop off.

Why is this?

Well, this is down to motivation.

Motivation is normally a short term thing.

You’ve probably witnessed this yourself. You’ve got really pumped up to do something. This could be fitness related. Career related. Whatever. Only to find after about 20 minutes that the motivation has gone. You don’t feel that same burst of energy as you did 20 minutes a go. This is not uncommon. Which is why you will find the gym will become quieter towards the end of January.

It is then up to you to make sure your motivation doesn’t drop. How can you do this??

Well, firstly set yourself weekly goals. Something you feel is manageable, but also something that is going to push you. Aim to hit and achieve this goal each week. It could be to lose 2 lbs in weight, or to run an extra mile. Weekly goals are a great way to keep you on target inc the short term.

Then, make sure you plan your weeks in advance. Preparing will be a key component off keeping motivated. This will help you to structure a routine for the week, allowing you to keep focused and on track. Any obstacle and surprises that occur during the week, (which will inevitably happen), can be overcome with a solid schedule and routine.

Don’t be the person who fades away by the end of January. Don’t follow the crowd.
