Are YOU Ok??

Sometimes life is amazing. Things are going great. Your relationship is fantastic. Your career is flying. You’re the healthiest you’ve ever been. You feel on top of the world. When things are like this, it’s great.

But……

What about when things aren’t great? What if your career has stalled? What if you’ve just broken up with someone? What if you’re piling on a few pounds and not happy about it? What happens then?

I’m sure at some point in your life you may well experience these types of feelings and emotions. It’s part of the emotional roller-coaster that is life. It’s something that we have to deal with on a daily basis. The highs. The lows. It’s how we deal with these that’s the topic of conversation today. How do we cope with these emotions?

Everyone, and I mean everyone, will deal with these things differently. Some will keep their cards close to their chest. Some will open up and tell all. We all have different coping mechanisms. The issues arise when someone is going through a tough time and feels they cannot open up.

This is a common theme amongst society at the moment. Not feeling like we can express our feelings to the world. We have to be ‘brave’. Keep it to ourselves. This is when problems occur.

Suicide rates have never been higher. Whether due to an increase in pressure from social media to live perfect lives remains up for debate.  But what is for sure, is that it needs to be sorted out asap.

Now for two tasks today. Firstly, ask yourself if YOU’RE ok? Have a think. It may seem a bit trivial. But take this seriously. Are you really ok? Is there anything on your mind that you feel you could share with anyone? There may be something that you don’t think is bothering you, but deep down it may well be the start of a bigger issue.

Ok, so when that’s done, ask a friend how they are. They will most probably respond with ‘I’m good thanks’. If so, ask again. How are they really? It may be the opportunity they need to open up and share with you what they’re really feeling.

It could make a huge difference in their life.

So, don’t be afraid to ask someone how they are. Don’t be afraid to open up yourself. A problem shared is a problem halved.

Let’s take a step in a positive direction. Be more open. Express yourself to others more.
